Mrs Clinch, I never want to blog again. I am doing this solely for you and I have no idea what to write about. And it is awful, and im sorry.. I am trying to save what little
motivation for literary analysis I have left for the exam on Thursday. I
believe for this particular blog we were supposed to comment on “The Importance
of Being Earnest.” I am glad to say that I enjoyed this play somewhat. It was
funny however not hilarious. Oscar Wilde is definitely a witty one. The way the
characters interact with one another and their society makes the novel so
interesting. The juvenalian satire makes the play easy to relate to because
everyone can make fun of themselves and laugh at themselves.
What
amazes me about this play however is how the typical structure and form of
comedies has survived over the years. They commonly end in marriage and share
the same qualities which is why I wonder how people have not begun to bore of
them. I think what keeps this particular play interesting is the presence of “bunburying”
and the theme of making the serious seem trivial and the trivial seem serious.
These are qualities that make the play stand by itself among other comedies. I
know that this ise technically not even half a blog and it is awful and I am sorry
about that. However I will save all the good stuff for the exam. Over all “the
Importance of being Earnest” was an enjoyable read and it added to my arsenal a
satire that I feel I can write about and that I really understand.
Over and Out.
